When a Dental Extraction Is Necessary
If you have severely decayed teeth, damaged teeth after gum disease, or teeth that cannot be saved by any other method, Dr. Robert Serafin or Dr. Tamara Shore may recommend a tooth extraction to remove the tooth entirely. Dental extractions are reserved for cases where no other treatment or procedure will save the tooth. We perform both simple and surgical extractions at our practice, depending on how much of the tooth structure is still below the gum line.
Benefits of Tooth Extractions
When you have decaying teeth in the mouth and are at risk for a serious infection, the problematic teeth must be removed. Tooth extractions help to reduce the risk of further decay and other oral health issues that could lead to tooth loss. Having a tooth extracted may support an orthodontic treatment plan and help healthy teeth grow into their proper position. This is a relatively simple procedure that can be performed under local anesthesia.
